Cold Quarter
Ian Moore
This one is a big one for me. I became a fan back in 1993 when his debut record was released. I first saw him perform live in 1995 in Oklahoma City. I’ve since seen him over 50 times, booked him myself 6 of those times and had the pleasure of getting to know him a little bit over the years. It seemed like a stretch that he would give me permission to include one of his songs on this compilation, but I had an idea. In April of 2013, he undertook a unique project of writing and releasing one new song every day for 30 days straight to anyone that subscribed. The first song he sent out was a tune called “Cold Quarter” it was an upbeat, crisp rocker that slapped and it stuck with me. It never made it onto any future albums and that project pre-dated streaming, so I pitched bringing it into the streaming world as a part of this compilation. Needless to say I was pumped when he wrote back and agreed!
Ian Moore shared his thoughts about it: “This song came from the “30 in 30”, where I wrote, recorded, and released a song per day. The idea was to break out of the old model of releasing a record as it seemed like some new avenues for connecting to listeners were opening up.
The song itself was kind of a mod-rocker, which seems to be my most natural voice when rocking, and leans back into a lot of the music I liked as a teen. The story is about a wild night I had in New Orleans many years ago when I ran into a coven of witches!”
