Rising Sun

Purusa

So there had to be a Purusa song on this compilation. There wouldn’t be a Prepaid Friends without Purusa. I started managing the band back around 1999 and formed the label in order to release their debut EP. Three full length albums followed, another EP and a single last summer. They were the reason I got involved in the Portland music scene in the first place. They were the reason I picked things back up in 2014. They are the reason I have become so involved in the Seattle music scene since moving back to the Northwest. It was never a question whether or not there would be a Purusa song on here, it was only a matter of which one.

The band has written more than a full album worth of new songs since their last record Amnesia. Some of them have dropped in and out of the setlists over the past couple years. “Rising Sun” is one that has endured and finally got a proper studio recording in 2026. The song features an extended intro that showcases some powerhouse vocals before the main riff cuts loose and pushes the song into a genuine rocker. Lead singer Kris Kirkman shared his thoughts: “I wrote rising sun for my daughter Aisley. The lyrics are pretty straightforward, but the point of the song was to make sure she knew she is perfect, exactly as she is, and to ‘trust the process’ of life and growing up.”
